Cenomanian-Turonian sea-level transgression and OAE2 deposition in the Western Narmada Basin, India

چکیده

We report the Narmada Seaway began in India during largest global sea-level transgression and Oceanic Anoxic Event 2 (OAE2) δ13C excursion late Cenomanian to early Turonian. The progressed eastward Turonian-Coniacian reached Jhilmili by end of Maastrichtian. During this time Godavari Seaways may have joined via Narmada-Tapti rift formed a Trans-India Seaway. history major seaway is entombed fossil-rich marine tectonically active zone. examined western Basin, Gujarat, improve age control based on planktic foraminifera ostracods evaluate paleoenvironmental changes Cenomanian-Turonian OAE2 excursion, δ18O records, mercury concentrations sediments as index for volcanic eruptions. Results reveal onset Basin coeval with first influx benthic Nimar Sandstone that overlies Archean rocks. peak was recorded oyster biostromes followed fluctuating values plateau overlying Limestone oysters beds, gradual decrease background tested ostracod biostratigraphy successfully compared results Pueblo, Colorado, Global Section Stratotype Point (GSSP), eastern Sinai Wadi El Ghaib section Egypt.

Multiple Milankovitch Cycles in the Bridge Creek Limestone (cenomanian-turonian), Western Interior Basin

Spectral analyses of complementary lithologic and paleoecologic data sets from the Cenomanian-Turonian Bridge Creek Limestone are used to test for Milankovitch periodicities. Because the analyses quantitatively assess variance in the data sets through the study interval, they also offer a new method for evaluating relationships between different components of the depositional system. The analys...

Nitrogen isotope variations and environmental perturbations during Cenomanian-Turonian transition in the NE Tethyan realm, Koppeh-Dagh basin

The Cenomanian-Turonian Gharesu section in the east of Kopet-Dagh basin have been investigated to determine the relationship between palaeoenvironmental perturbations and nitrogen cycling across OAE2. This succession is composed of 43 m shale and marl interbedded with glauconitic sandstone and lies between Aitamir-Abderaz formations boundary. The nitrogen Isotope values fluctuate between 0‰ to ...

Oceanic anoxic events and plankton evolution: Biotic response to tectonic forcing during the mid-Cretaceous

[1] Mid-Cretaceous (Barremian-Turonian) plankton preserved in deep-sea marl, organic-rich shale, and pelagic carbonate hold an important record of how the marine biosphere responded to shortand long-term changes in the ocean-climate system. Oceanic anoxic events (OAEs) were short-lived episodes of organic carbon burial that are distinguished by their widespread distribution as discrete beds of ...

Historical distribution patterns of trigonioidids (non-marine Cretaceous bivalves) in Asia and their palaeogeographic significance.

The non-marine trigonioidid bivalves show five phases of radiation in the Cretaceous of Pal-Asia: pre-Aptian (?Valanginian/Hauterivian-Barremian), Aptian, Albian, Cenomanian and Turonian-Maastrichtian. Their distribution patterns show two distinct palaeo-river systems feeding trigonioidids. Before the Cenomanian, the river system occupied the southwestern-southern-southeastern Pal-Asian contine...

Extension in the western Ross Sea region-links between Adare Basin and Victoria Land Basin

[1] Spreading in the Adare Basin off north-western Ross Sea (43–26 Ma) and extension in the Victoria Land Basin (VLB, > 36 Ma) are used to constrain the pole of rotation for the Adare Basin, providing a rifting model for the region for the past 45 Ma. The offset from Northern Basin to VLB at about 74 S coincides with the linear Polar-3 magnetic anomaly, inferred to be caused by a major 48 34 Ma...
